Philodendron 'Blizzard'

The Philodendron Blizzard is a beautiful variegated philodendron with splashes of cream, white, and green. Because of its variegation, it needs a little more light than solid green philodendrons, but overall it is fairly easy to care for.

🌞 Light

  • Provide bright, indirect light.

  • Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the white portions of the leaves.

  • Too little light may cause slower growth and reduced variegation.

💧 Water

  • Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry.

  • Thoroughly water until excess drains from the bottom.

  • Do not allow the plant to sit in standing water.

  • Reduce watering during cooler months when growth slows.

🌱 Soil

  • Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix.

  • A good mix includes:

    • Potting soil

    • Orchid bark

    • Perlite or pumice

    • Coco coir or peat moss

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 65-85°F (18-29°C).

  • Avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

  • Prefers humidity above 50%, but will tolerate average household humidity.

  • Higher humidity can help maintain larger, healthier leaves.

🪴 Fertilizer

  • Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength.

  • Reduce or stop fertilizing during winter.

✂️ Pruning

  • Remove yellow or damaged leaves as needed.

  • Prune leggy growth to encourage a fuller plant.

  • Healthy cuttings can be propagated in water or sphagnum moss.

⚠️ Common Problems

  • Yellow leaves: Often caused by overwatering.

  • Brown crispy edges: Low humidity or underwatering.

  • Loss of variegation: Usually due to insufficient light.

  • Drooping leaves: Check both soil moisture and root health.

🐾 Pet Safety

  • Like most philodendrons, Blizzard contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed.
